Painting On Sale, Daily Painting, Tropical Landscape, Small Oil Painting, Morning Light by Carol Schiff, 12x12 Oil Painting

This is a painting that has always been close to my heart.  It is a scene not too far from where I live.  Although it looks like a wilderness, it is actually between a neighborhood and a church.

Plein Air Landscape, 6x8, Oil SOLD

I don't often paint out of the studio, but recently I spent a week in North Carolina with my paint group, Pieces of Eight.  We didn't paint as much as we usually do on our retreats, but we did get a few days in.

SOLD

We went to a beautiful location, Grandfather Vineyard, near Boone, and painted on the grounds.  Tables and chairs we set up on the bank of the stream and customers would bring their bottles of wine and glasses and enjoy an hour or two.

It was a beautiful, sunny fall day and we enjoyed our painting session.  When we had put our brushes away, we purchased a few bottles of wine and enjoyed a lively art discussion in this wonderful location.  I took lots of photos and have several from Grandfather Vineyards that I plan to paint soon.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Marsh Landscape Painting, Georgia Wetlands by Carol Schiff, 6x12x.5" Original

I have been trying to understand why I am so drawn to the marsh landscape, I finally realized, it is the way the water seems to drift lazily around the mounds of earth and plant life, the way it changes color from  season to season.  It is all just too soothing.

The vegetation is so lush.  As you can see, this part was painted with a knife.

Cloud Painting, Sky Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, A Touch of Blue by Carol Schiff, 6x8 Original art

I love to paint the sky, but this is my first daily painting of ONLY sky.

It was really quite fun as I concentrate more on values than getting really accurate shape.  I like the texture  and will definitely do this little exercise again.

It's nice to have a model that is always available and changes each time you paint it.

What are your favorite things to paint?  I started off with simple still life, went through a flower stage and now find I am doing more landscape than anything else.  My goals this year are many.  I want to paint more larger pieces, more figurative pieces and to add quality giclee' prints to my website.

I hope I can stay on track.  Do you have a plan for where you want to be 12 months from now? I would love to hear about it.

Keep painting and thank you for viewing my blog today.

In the tropics, the storms come in quickly and violently!  This large landscape painting attempts to convey the power and drama of these events.

I painted with a palette knife and tried to keep all the strokes visible and strong.

Some areas have extremely thick paint.

This is a study for a 48x60" piece that I am planning.

OLIVER'S CABIN, CADES COVE, SMOKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

Talk about scary! The Oliver's, a young family with one child and one on the way, built this cabin, the first in Cades Cove, to live among the Cherokee's in 1818. Can you imagine moving your family to an isolated area in the middle of hostile people with no one and nothing to depend on? Turns out, it was a good move. They were so busy building their cabin, that when winter came, they had no time to plant food! The Cherokee's brought them food and helped them survive. Cades Cove is a clearing in the middle of Smoky Mountain National Park. The flowers are actually day lilies.

This is an 8x10, oil on panel, in my Etsy shop.

Painting on Sale, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Georgia's Barn" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

Purchase here
79 minus 20. rebate
This painting is a result of a Georgia O'Keeffe study.  I was unaware of her barn paintings and one day decided to try her technique.

Today, this painting is on sale at a very tempting price.

Purchase at the link above and you will be charged $79. and shipping charges. You must write ART SALE on the order to receive the discount.  As soon as I receive your payment, I will return a credit of $20.00 to your credit card or PayPal account.

This sale is only for readers of my blog, so if you don't write ART SALE on the order, I won't know you saw it here and you won't get a rebate.

This offer will expire Friday, January 9, 2015 at 12:01 a.m.

Tip for artists:  Instead of purchasing art books, I purchase paintings from my favorite artists.  I find it much more helpful for me to study technique and brushwork from an actual example instead of a book.  I have the added benefit of owning original artwork which I enjoy daily in my home.

Have a Happy Day!

Marsh Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "North Florida Marsh" by Carol Schiff, 6x8 Original Oil

This marsh landscape painting is inspired by a trip to Fernandina Beach.  I was captivated by the autumn colors of the marshes.

Yes, we do have fall color in Florida.....you just have to look a little harder to find it.

It may not be on the trees, and it may not be in October.  I was just noticing how beautiful the red maple trees in our yard looked last week. The leaves were a lovely burgundy color.....perfect during the Christmas season.  Of course, we don't have thousands of trees in glorious color like you will find in the North, but I like to think the beaches and mild winter weather make up for it. :)

Mountain Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Morning Mist" by Carol Schiff, 12x12x1.5 Original

When I am in the mountains of North Carolina, I love to start the day with a cup of coffee on the front porch.  It is fascinating to watch the sun break over the mountains and burn off the morning mist that collects in the valley in the evening.

Garden Painting, Daily Painting, Small OilPainting "Gardens at Hyde Park" 6x8" Oil

Another Wednesday....and another WILD AND WACKY SALE!  This week I am featuring another of my favorites.  I visited London a few years ago and this painting is a result of that trip.....a beautiful English garden and cottage in Hyde Park.  The painting originally was priced at $95.95, is currently on sale at $75.00, but when you purchase from the "Purchase here" link below the image, I will send you back $10.00!  Just note the words "WILD AND WACKY" on the order.

Purchase here
$75
We have all heard about the beautiful English countryside and the gorgeous gardens that are found there.  The cool and moist sea air bring perfect growing conditions to the British isle.  This garden in Hyde Park was a shining example.  May of the flowers were much taller than I.  The cottage was actually some type of Park Headquarters, but was equally charming on the outside.  It was truly a treat to stumble onto this diamond.

Cheerio!

Painted with my favorite instrument.....a palette knife.  I like the way I can transition from one color to another with my knives.  I kept this painting quite smooth in comparison with many of my palette knife works
