You may have seen this before!

I apologize if you have seen this before.  I had a posting problem several weeks ago and two of my posts went out to some, but not all.  I decided to post them again.

Today, I wanted to post a few of my teapot lamps and something new.....dinner plate clocks.

This will never take the place of my art, but, it is a nice little break ......getting creative in another media.  I loved the leopard print teapot and I paired it up with a yellow and black plate that has a bumblebee on it.

I always smile when I see this one with yellow and black polk a dots as well as black and white checks with yellow daisies.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Mountain Landscape Painting, 6x8" Oil, "High in the Sky"

If you live in Colorado, you probably don't consider 6,000+ feet as high in the sky.  That is the altitude of Water Rock Knob, North Carolina, which is depicted in this daily painting

I returned from a week touring Colorado.  It is incredibly beautiful and wild.  Where else can you go to see a herd of antelope grazing, or big horn sheep!  The prairie is as gorgeous as the mountains.  I wasn't expecting the beauty of rolling hills, of mother deer with their fawns walking through the waist high grasses.

But this painting is from a kinder, gentler mountain.  What is high in the Blue Ridge is a starting point in the Rockies!  I love both places.  Being a flatlander, I feel blessed to be able to visit these stunning landscapes.

Thanks for viewing my blog today.

"Ridge Line" 6x12" Palette Knife Painting SOLD

It is hard to beat the beauty of the mountains, especially when the sun is setting.

We were enjoying dinner at a friend's house when the sun put on this wonderful display.  The watercolor sky was impossible to ignore and the trees on the ridge appeared on fire as the sun dropped behind the mountain.

Sunsets are truly one of life's jewels.  Enjoy!

WILDFLOWERS, ACRYLIC, 20X24, SOLD

This is definitely not my usual painting! A few years ago, I took a month long workshop with Fritz VanEeden. Fritz is a very well known and respected artist from Holland who has been living in our town at least part of the year. I was fortunate enough to work with him for over a month, 3 days a week, for 4-5 hours. Fritz is obsessed, and if he is awake, he must have a paintbrush in his hand! He is also a wonderful man. I do enjoy this type of painting, but I just couldn't get the hang of painting out of my head. So this is my one and only true abstract!

Now, my varnishing question got several replies, both here and on facebook, and the winner is......retouch varnish! I have run to my art supply store to grab a can and now feel much more confident in my technique. So, thank you all very much for your replies!

Marsh Landscape with herons, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 9x12x.75" Oil

This little painting on linen, is a study for a 30x40" commission that I am working on.

I painted several small studies, until the client was happy with the composition.

I think this has a slightly "romantic"feel about it, quite different than my usual pieces.  I kept the brushwork and the colors softer than my usual works.

When I first started painting, there were so many rules to learn.  I never knew what the finished piece would look like and usually started without a specific feel in mind.  After all these years, I am finally feeling a little control in my work, but, oh so much more to learn!

I know for me, this is the appeal of painting, always trying to challenge myself and escalate my skills.  Very frustrating and also very rewarding and ALWAYS interesting!

Have a great day!

Abstract Landscape, Abstract Sunset, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8"

I am always fascinated by sunsets, especiall sunsets over water.  This little study is my impressions of a sunset at Fernandina Beach harbor.

Of course, it bares no comparison to the actual photo(or the actual event) I took, but it did provide me with several hours of fun in the studio.

Such a simple piece should not have turned into the project I experienced, but as often happens, it did.  I wanted just the right glow of colors.

It seems with me, a painting either falls off my brush or it is a major struggle.  The falling off my brush part does not happen nearly as often as the major struggle.  After 20+ years of painting, I imagined I would be further down the road.  As my kids like to say, "it is what it is".

I try to appease myself by thinking if it were easy, it would be boring.  Maybe so, but I could handle just a tad more boring,

Hope you have a great day.  Thanks for stopping by.

California Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 11x14x1.5" , "Off PCH" by Carol Schiff Studio

My good friend, and excellent photographer, Ted Fuhrer,  has done it again, supplying me with so many inspiring images to paint from.  On of the many places he has lived was the coastal region of California.

Ted, I hope you think I did justice to your work.

I am always in awe of the western coast of our country.  Living on the east coast is great, and I am so blessed to be here. We have gentle surf, warm water, island music.... But to me, the west coast is larger than life.  So rugged, so big, a constant test to exist there. The boulders are larger than houses, the mountain streams are full of rushing rapids. The pioneer spirit is still alive there.  I cannpt wait to visit again.

Art Hits the Road!!

Something a little different today....no paintings to view.

I have been busy for several months, working on a very large commission.  I am so relieved to finally finish the project.  Here it is, all crated up and ready to go.

My husband is happy to have his garage back.

Down the driveway and into the big truck.

Who knew you could move around 200 pounds with one hand!  I need one of those pallet lifts!

I loved working on this project as it was  quite a stretch for me.  Everything is very hush,  hush and I am not allowed to tell you more at this point.

However, I can say I am planning a trip to New Orleans soon!

Thank you for viewing my blog today.

beach, canvas board, Carol Schiff, daily painter, daily painting, Florida, impressionism, landscape, ocean, oil painting, original painting, Sanibel, sea, sea oats, shore,

A recent trip to Sanibel brought me plenty of images to paint. Of course, the beach had to be the star.

SOLD
I had not visited the area for many, many years, and I must admit that I forgot how beautiful it is.  The water is aqua and clear, much like the tropical waters of the Caribbean Islands.

I passed this little group of sea oats every morning on the path to the sea.  My favorite activity was to walk the beach as the sun was rising, with only the occasional fisherman or shell hunter and lots of pelicans and gulls  for company.

Marsh Painting,Southern Landscape, daily painting, small oil painting SOLD

A favorite client recently requested a custom marsh oil painting .  She liked a 6x18"  painting I had done it the past, but wanted to use a cherished 14x20" frame.  This is what we ended up with.

I always enjoy working on a special project with a client.   Contact me for a price quote on your own very special  painting.
