Mountain Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, "Mt Rainier" by Carol Schiff, 8x6" Oil SOLD

I wanted to do a mountain painting.....but this time it is not the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.  After a trip to Mt, Rainier in Washington state, I had to paint it!

SOLD
Everything is bigger and more rugged in the west and Mt,. Rainier is the biggest of them all.  It looms over you in the Seattle/Tacoma area......a very massive and impressive sight.  I was surprised to see it poking through the clouds during our flight.

It's not just the mountains that are larger in the west.  I was also fascinated with the tall, tall trees.  It was a great trip and I cannot wait to visit again.

Are you ready for Thanksgiving?  I see a turkey in my future!

Large Landscape Painting, Storm Painting, "StormFront" by Carol Schiff, 24x30x1.5" Original Oil Painting

In the tropics, the storms come in quickly and violently!  This large landscape painting attempts to convey the power and drama of these events.

I painted with a palette knife and tried to keep all the strokes visible and strong.

Some areas have extremely thick paint.

This was a study for a 48x60" piece that I painted.

Autumn in the mountains is where I want to be.  This year, I was very lucky to spend two months there.

I was inspired to paint this one from the ever evolving show I saw each day.  It brings back childhood memories of northern Ohio and Michigan.....minus the mountains, of course.

What more could I ask for?  It gets better and better each day.  Of course, in the mountains it seems the color is climbing to the sky.

One evening we spied a herd of Elk in the meadow.  You can hear them bellowing in the woods this time of year. They come down to the meadows to feed at dusk and dawn..  This herd was one make and about 30 females.

As much as I love it there, I was ready to head south to Florida when the weather got cold.  When the trees are stripped bare, and the cold winds are blowing, I enjoy the beautiful beaches. Life is good!

Lemon On Tree Painting, 9x12 Oil Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting

This one has been hanging around for awhile, no pun intended!  Sometimes, it seems the most simple objects are the hardest for me.  I struggled to get the correct shape and shading on this lemon until I was ready to pull out my hair.

I should have put my brushes away that day and gone shopping, have lunch with a friend, anything but paint!

It sat in my studio for months, mocking me, this lemon of a lemon.  Finally I worked up the courage to finish it and put it away.

Some days just don't work!

Daily Painting | Oil Landscape | Garden Painting | The Walk to Freedom by Carol Schiff | 24x30x1.5 Oil

A few months ago, I did a small study of this garden landscene, on Laura Plantation in southern Louisiana.  I have wanted to paint a larger version, but, life got in the way.  Finally, I  was able to finish this 24x30" piece.

It brings back memories of a trip I took to New Orleans last year.  We spent the day driving through the surrounding countryside and toured two plantations that bordered the Mississippi levy.

As you can imagine, the grounds were stunning, but I couldn't help but think of the slaves who toiled there.

I painted using both a brush and palette knife.  I love the texture a palette knife brings to a piece.  I think it adds so much interest.

I painted the sides of the canvas black.  This garden landscape will work well either framed or unframed.

Don't forget to pin it, please.

Small Coneflower Painting, Flower Painting, Floral Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Floral Landscape

I planted coneflower (echinacea) around my home in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  So...of course, I had to paint them too.

I find them to be easy to grown, and cheerful, with their giant heads and quirky style.

I painted several coneflower paintings last summer, in many sizes and styles.  Somehow, this little one was overlooked and never posted.

I tried to keep it fresh and simple, painting with a large brush.  I also tried to keep the colors harmonized.

All in all, I feel good about the results.  Hope you like it too.

Have a blessed day!

Tropical Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, "Golden Palm" by Carol Schiff, 16x20" Oil, SOLD

I was going through some of my old files, and found this tropical Landscape painting that I did several years ago.  I was in morning light, in an area covered with palmettos.  I was fascinated by the play of light on the palm fronds, forming beautiful abstract shapes.
