As a child living in rural Ohio, my grandmother would visit from Florida, bringing along an exotic collection of seashells and postcards. There was always one or two postcards from McKee Gardens in Vero Beach. She  awakened a deep desire in me.....to live in this strange and beautiful tropical land.

Recently I made my first trip to McGee Gardens, a magical place filled with  tropical flora and  giant water lily pads.

I was fascinated with the bamboo stands, so abstract in their shapes.

It's always nice when a childhood dream comes true............Thank you Grandma.

I have been working, working, working, on my Etsy site, turning me into a computer operator!  Day after day, sitting at the computer for hours at a time.

We are rather tree challenged here in Florida.  We have beautiful palm trees, but when it comes to the huge leafy trees of my childhood, in the north, not so much.

Enter the live oak.  It's big, not really that leafy, but long, long beautiful branches, often draped with Spanish moss.

 This one is just a baby, but I couldn't resist painting it as it seemed to glow in the sunshine.

I am trying to capture that moment when the whole world has a golden glow.  My image showed a live oak, draped in spanish moss with the sun setting in the background.

I recently visited the outer banks of North Carolina.  Ocracoke is a small settlement on the southern end of the banks.

The residents are a special group of individuals, who fiercely defend their lifestyle.

 It is a 2 1/2 hour ferry ride, to reach the island, and many of the residents go years without visiting the mainland.

I appreciated their dedication to this small strip of land, 40 miles from the mainland, and am thankful they were willing to share it with me.

 I recently returned to Florida after three years living in the  Asheville area.  Since I am back in Florida my tropical self has come out of hiding.

We are living further south than we did in the past, and it is much more tropical here.  My painting is trying to adjust to the new landscapes.

We have just returned from time in the mountains, rushing home to monitor hurricane season in Florida.  When we return to the mountains, this will be a typical scene.

It is so easy to overdue autumn colors.  Your eye tells you the intense colors are what you are seeing, but when you put it on canvas, it is not believable.  Time to tone it down a touch.  Nature is maybe not quite that bright.

Ocracoke Island Landscape, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 6x8" Oil on canvas

Earlier this year, we spent a few days on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Ocracoke Island was my favorite place.....a step back in time.

This little painting is a typical view on the cedar covered island.

Unfortunately, this beautiful island, and it's rugged residents, took a big hit from Hurricane Dorian, earlier this month.  Hopefully, all are safe and repairs are being made.
