Rural Painting | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Queen Ann's Lace by Carol Schiff | 6x12x.75" Oil

This is another of my small oil paintings of North Carolina.  The fields were golden in June, a nice offset to the blue green mountains.  As I walked the roads each morning, I found wildflowers everywhere. What a nice way to start the day!

When I returned, a month later, the fields were green and the wildflowers were mowed down.  Still beautiful  but something was lost.

This piece has a companion.  You may remember it as I posted it here a few months ago.

Mountain Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | On Top of Old Smoky by Carol Schiff | 8x8x1.5" Oil

Have you ever walked through clouds?  On this day, I could actually see them drifting past my feet.  They are very wet!

We were on one of the higher peaks of the Smokies.  My youngest grandson was delighted!

I tried to capture the feel of the rugged pines that grow at an altitude of 7,000+ feet, with my palette knife.  It allowed a textured feel the reminds me of the prickly and gnarled pines.

I painted on a gallery wrap canvas to allow hanging with or without a frame.

Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Landscape | Into the Woods by Carol Schiff | 6x6x1.5" Oi

In this small oil painting, I tried to capture that brief moment in time when the sun drops behind the horizon and backlights a grouping of trees.

I wanted to leave this with a slight whimsical feeling.  It is on 6x6x1.5" gallery wrap canvas with the sides painted black, allowing it to be hung with or without a frame.  Don't you just love gallery wrap?

I also wanted to show you this neat image a client sent me.  She purchased one of my prints on wood panel and liked it so much, she ultimately ordered another, larger, print of the same scene.  She sent me an image of it hanging in her room.  Thank you Kim... I have headboard envy!!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

As I took my morning walks, I marveled at the beauty of the area.  Even the road I walked seemed special surrounded in green and little wildflowers.  The trees surrounding the road formed a canopy with strong light shining through.  I couldn't wait to paint the scene!

They are both painted on 6x6x1.5"  gallery wrap canvases with the sides painted black.  No framing costs necessary!

I had such fun painting these small landscape paintings....can you tell?

Thistle Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Thistle and Meadow by Carol Schiff | 6x12x.75" Oil

It seems to me the beauty of the fields and meadows of the North Carolina mountain country is even more stunning than usual this summer.  During my trips there, I walk the country roads each morning.  Every day seems more spectacular than the day before.  Since returning home, I have tried to capture the scenes on canvas.

The purple thistles sparkled against the golden fields.  One morning, I picked a beautiful bouquet of wildflowers, some would all them weeds.  The entire state seemed to be covered in daylilies, blooming wild on the sides of mountains and in roadside ditches.

This is my bouquet of wildflowers, sitting on my windowsill.

Hope you find some beauty in your life today too!

Tropical Landscape Painting | Small Oil Painting | Flower Painting | Daily Painting | Bougainvillea Garden by Carol Schiff \ 6x8" Oil | SOLD

One of the advantages of living in Florida is the profusion of blooming flowers available year round.  Bougainvillea is found everywhere in the state in several vibrant colors.

SOLD

A native to coastal Brazil, the bougainvillea was discovered in 1768 in Rio de Janeiro by French naturalist Dr. Philibert Commerçon (also sometimes spelled Commerson). The plant is named after his close friend and ship’s admiral Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, who commanded the ship La Boudeuse that sailed around the world between 1766-1769, and in which Commerçon was a passenger.
It certainly speaks to tropical Florida, although it is covered in thorns.
This scene was requested by a client who longs for her memories of a Key West vacation.

Marsh Painting, Small Oil Landscape, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, SALTWATER MARSH, SOLD

I tried for years to take an interesting painting of this marsh off I-75 near Brunswick GA but traveling at 75 MPH does not lead to good photography. Finally, my husband approached the spot with no cars behind us and was able to pull out of traffic so that I could try again.

SOLD

I think marshes are so interesting as the water comes and  recedes and the colors change with the seasons.

For those of you into rap.....this is a wonderful, soulful old song made famous by one of the top female singers in history, Billie Holiday.  If I knew how to add a sound clip, I would be playing it now.

Barn Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Georgia O'Keeffe | Georgia's Barn by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil

There is something special about this barn painting.  This small oil painting is my attempt to duplicate one of Georgia O'Keeffe's barn series.  I was unaware the she had a barn series, until my painting group, Pieces of Eight, spent a day studying her art and trying to duplicate it.

Duplicating the art of a master is an acceptable learning practice as long as the original artist is given credit, which I have done by signing this work as "after O'Keeffe".  It is why you see so many art students sketching in museums.

To be honest, I chose this work because it was such a simple, flat little piece.  The thought of giving her flowers or skulls a try did not appeal to me.

The more I worked on this little piece, the more I began to enjoy it and see it's charm.  I ended the day very happy with my choice.

Daily Painting, Florida Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Going Coconuts" by Carol Schiff, SO

A few weeks ago, I was hanging out at one of my favorite places, Eau Gallie Yacht Club.  It is a gorgeous facility sitting on Florida's intra-coastal waterway.  I was sitting outside, enjoying a glass of wine and watching my grandson paddleboard, surrounded by dolphins.  Suddenly I noticed three palms filled with coconuts.

I love the fact that I can pull out my cell and take photos anywhere.  In the old days (before last year) I would miss lots of photo opportunities when I left the house without a camera.

Computers have truely changed our lives.  I remember reading a few years ago, about an undercover invention that was going to change mankind.  Come to find out....it was the Segway!  Ha!

Oh well, one life changing invention in a life time is all I can ask for.....and that is the internet.
