Daily Painting, Small Landscape "A Touch of Fall" 6x8" Original Oil

We spent a few days in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains last week.  Mother Nature out did herself with perfect days in the mid 60's, blue skies and the trees in peak color.

This scene is our next door neighbor and I couldn't ask for more.  The brilliant red house nestled into the fall foliage and everything reflected in the lake at the front of the property.

If you have not taken the time to celebrate autumn.......do it now!  Go carve a pumpkin :)

It was hard to leave the mountains and return to Florida where it is still hot and humid.

This is the third time I have written this post.  It appears Blogger hates me.  When I try to publish....the whole thing suddenly disappears.  Is anyone out there having any problems with Blogger, or am I the only lucky one?

Don't forget to check out my painting sale at my Etsy site where I have listed paintings at 1/2 off for a short period of time.

Marsh Landscape, Palette Knife Painting, COLORS OF THE MARSH 8x8x1.5" oil

The sun is quickly sinking below the horizon and within minutes the colors of the marsh will disappear.

My goal here was to suggest the beauty and colors of the marsh in late summer.  I wanted to use plenty of texture and thick paint to do so.

I really love the gallery wrap canvases from "The Edge".  I like the chunky shape of this small 8x8" with the 1.5" depth that gives this small painting more presence.

Abstract Landscape | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Seeing Better Days by Carol Schiff | 6x8 Oil

This abstract landscape of an isolated structure in blazing sunlight is a memory of the days I lived in Louisiana and Texas.  Often we would find these abandoned structures awaiting a new life.

But it could also be from the countryside of Arizona or even North Dakota, where the weather is very rugged.  Can you tell I moved a lot in my life?  Yes, I spent years and years following my Air Force husband from location to location.  We are so happy to have spread our roots in Florida and North Carolina.

I have to be in the mood to paint with a palette knife, but when I am.....it is really fun (and in my case messy).  Most of my favorite artwork (by me) has a least, some areas of knife work.  I really love the texture which I feel brings a whole new dimension to the piece.

Thanks so much for viewing my abstract landscape today.  I hope you will pin it!

Small Seascape Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Green Sea by Carol Schiff | 11x14 Original

This small seascape painting was worked with a palette knife and is full of texture.  Just as the sea has many faces, my art does too.  Some days I want to do a detailed piece and somedays I want to sling paint.  Today...I wanted to sling paint.

Farm Landscape | Daily Painting | Mountain Landscape | Valley View by Carol Schiff | 16x20x1.5" Oil

Being in the valley, our mornings in the mountains are often cool and covered with smoke (as in Smoky Mountains).  Often by mid-morning the sun burns it off.

This landscape is a nearby farm, one we pass each day.  Sometimes there are cows in the pasture or Canadian Geese in the ponds, but it ALWAYS catches my eye.

On this day, the sun was breaking through and the fields were glowing with hay.

We have just returned to Florida after a few wonderful weeks in the mountains of North Carolina.  Fall is magical to me, especially in the mountains.

Floral Landscape | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Garden Walk by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Original

I have always had visions of the perfect flower garden in my head and this small oil painting really captures it.  A white picket fence, an abundance of flowers, bee's buzzing...something like a Disney garden with no weeds allowed.

When I saw this garden, in front of a charming cottage in North Carolina Blue Ridge Mts., it was like a dream come true.  Of course, I had to paint it.

I am not blessed with a green thumb, so this was as close as I could get to my fantasy.  I hope you enjoy it!

When I first moved to Florida, I remember going to a plant nursey and the owner said to me "You are in the land of milk and honey, everything grows here."  Not true!  In the summer, it is so hot, my plants die or struggle to survive.  This year we have had so much rain, everything has rotted!  Now, Washington State, British Columbia, England....that is where beautiful flowers grow!

Daily Painting, Small Flower Painting, Small Oil Painting, " Picket Fence" by Carol Schiff, 6x12x.75" Oil

Every once in a while I find a small piece of "the way things used to be"........you know what I mean?  In the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, we often pass a charming white house, surrounded by a white picket fence.  It is obviously the house of a gardner.  When I saw it this summer, with a beautiful display of flowers bordering the fence, I asked my husband to stop so that I could hop out of the car and take a photo.

Somebody remind me not to paint  with such dark backgrounds!  Although, I love the way the painting shows in life, it is impossible to photograph it without glare.

Regardless, I was happy with the painting and thrilled to find this beautiful setting and reminder of the slower, more peaceful life in small town America that I remember from my youth.

Daily Abstract Painting, "Texture" 20x16", Mixed Media

If you follow my blog, you probably are aware of my interest in abstract art.  Although I will continue with my impressionism paintings, I do have a growing desire to dabble in the abstract area.

This painting is a study of texture.  I wanted to keep color to a minimum.

I used molding paste, acrylics and oil pastels to achieve the desired effects.

Thank you for viewing my daily paintings.  Enjoy your weekend!

BLUE RIDGE AUTUMN 5X7, OIL,SOLD

This one was fun to do, kind of abstract. I liked the colors, so decided to do more in the same style. I will post the other two soon. I actually created this one out of my head. When I first took painting lessons, it was all about "seeing" and painting what you "see" not what you know. Then I took a month long class from an artist who does abstract and it was all about getting it out of your head. This is half and half. I didn't paint from a photo, but, I feel like I have seen this before.
