I tried several approaches, but nothing was working for me. So, I just started playing with paint and my palette knife. I was envisioning a sunset over the landscape, choosing colors that "felt" right for me.
You can see how deep the canvas is in this pic. I actually love these big clunky canvases on shelves rather than walls, and I like the feel of the rough clunky paint.
All in all, it was a fun painting day.

Mountain Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Smoky Mountains 6x8" Oil Painting
I have been in North Carolina for the past month, so naturally we had to take a few drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I always think it will not be so impressive this time, I have seen it many times. But, I never fail to see a view that requires a quick intake of breath!

Trying to get the effect of the morning mist was the challenge here. Not sure I pulled it off, but it is a good try. Practice makes perfect.

Small Sunflower Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil
Sunflowers and farmhouses, the perfect pairing!
It is a cold, gray day, here in the mountains, and sunflowers are the perfect way to brighten things up.
Both sunflowers and farmhouses, are not uncommon, here in the mountains. It's hard not to smile when I look at sunflowers.
Yesterday, we drove over the mountains to Gatlinburg. I am happy to report that things are looking up there. Spring is taking over, renewal is everywhere. Yes, there are still signs of the devastating fires from last fall, but the mood is upbeat and the tourists are there.
Have a wonderful day!

Florida Landscape, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Tropical Painting, 5x7" Oil Landscape
I guess I am a typical artist. By that, I mean unorganized!
I just found this little painting in the back of my inventory closet. I must have painted it 6 or 7 years ago!

Purchase here I always wondered why it didn't sell! I sit here tonight (Sept 10) listening to the wind howl, the rain pounding, a huge tree down in our yard and another of about 19 tornado warnings on our weather radio going off. Hurricane Irma has been beating us up all day, with the worse to come about 2:00 a.m. Trying to do blog posts to distract from the fury outside. On the bright side, for the time being, we still have power. The lights flicker, but so far, they have come back on. That's a biggy! When we lose power in a hurricane, it usually takes close to a week to get it back. A long hot, humid week!! Thanks for reading my blog. Rose Trellis Oil Painting, Garden Painting, 8x8x1.5" Small Landscape
I have always had a vision of the perfect garden, and it has always included a rose trellis. Alas, it is not to be, for me. But, I can paint one!
Actually, now that I think about it, this is much more my style. No maintenance required!
Have a rosy day!

Small Seascape Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Green Sea by Carol Schiff | 11x14 Original SOLD
This small seascape painting was worked with a palette knife and is full of texture. Just as the sea has many faces, my art does too. Some days I want to do a detailed piece and somedays I want to sling paint. Today...I wanted to sling paint.
The textured sand and foliage.

Stormy Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, Small oil Painting, 8x10x.75 Storm Scene
I don't like drama in my life, just my artwork. The more drama I can produce, in paint, the happier I am.
So, I must admit, I had fun with this little piece. I started with a reference photo, but tossed it aside after about five minutes of painting.
I just went with the flow, on this one, enjoying the process and pushing paint where I thought it need to go............Good for the soul!
